Diverse Universe is a school club meeting together to promote a safe place where self-expression is celebrated and welcome. Led by Allison Martzolf and Delaney Gilliland, meetings are spent gathering, exploring, and discussing issues related to diversity, identity, justice, action, and inclusivity. In November, Diverse Universe had the privilege to meet Dean Roff, founder of Homeless Hookup CLE, an organization dedicated to helping the less fortunate affected by poverty and homelessness. Dean led a great discussion about human rights, dignity, and giving back to one's community. He also led students on a tour of his Mobile Homeless Hygiene Unit. Diverse Universe was able to present him Roff with donations collected by staff and students. This extraordinary show of love, respect, gratitude, caring, giving, thoughtfulness, motivation, and LOVE truly illustrates the importance of kindness to others in our community.

It's Fire Prevention Week and that means time for a new junior fire chief. The junior chief earns the title by winning the annual fifth-grade essay contest on the week's theme, which this year is "Fire won't wait. Plan your escape." The 2022 winner and new junior chief is Horace Mann's Ainsley Tracey! As is tradition, Ainsley arrived at school on Monday by way of Fire Engine Truck #4 with the the school's students and staff there to greet her. Congratulations, Ainsley!
